Programme for Research and Cooperation


a. Objectives

 

The Programme focuses on supporting the planning activities within the programme above by in-depth research, development of the methodology of early warning and early action related to genocide and mass atrocities and enhancement of coherence among international actors. To this end, the Budapest Centre intensively collaborates with the international network including the academia, International Organizations and non-governmental organizations dedicated to the prevention of genocide and mass atrocities. The Programme devotes specific attention to the awareness raising activities, building up capabilities in various regions of the world and enhance collaboration between the concerned parties of the International Community dedicated to prevention of genocide and mass atrocities.

 

b. Priorities

 

- Preparation and coordination of academic research, with a view to investigate the international law and international relations backgrounds for the enhancement of the theoretical framework of genocide and mass atrocities prevention studies, including R2P and the concept of human security;

- Preparation of in-depth research with a view to support daily early warning and dialogue activities relating to the prevention of genocide and mass atrocities;

- Design and implementation of awareness raising campaigns and skills building exercises in close cooperation with specialized agencies and organizations;

- Promotion of education (including teaching, research, and social services activities) related to the prevention of genocide and mass atrocities;

- Promotion of cooperation between the Foundation and the international community through the conclusion of Memorandum of Understandings and implementation of joint programmes and events;

- Development and update of a public database and world-map of international, regional, national and local institutions, organizations and individuals working in the field of genocide and mass atrocities prevention, early warning, conflict prevention and policy planning, and facilitate collaboration among them.

 

Since 2011, the programme of research and cooperation, as a priority, developed its methodological framework for the future research work of the Budapest Centre. In this regard, the Budapest Centre developed, in lose cooperation with relevant partners,

 

- A criteria for the set up of research teams and analysis groups of academics and practitioners;

- Criteria for the signature of cooperation activities with third parties and institutional cooperation;

- Criteria for the application of evaluation indicators on the activities of the Budapest Centre;

- Standards for the future development of trainings and educational activities.
